Teaching and Worship Resources 1

Welcome to Teaching and Worship Resources, week 1! – all part of our Online for the Better Life initiative.  Each week you will have access to a 15-20 minute videocast with a Bible message from one of our STC team, along with a worship experience and an Action section containing worksheets for individuals and families, etc.

This week our focus is PRAYER.  In such times of crisis, we feel we cannot do anything, but in fact, this is an amazing opportunity to do so much through prayer.  Initially you will find through these resources you will not be asked to do ‘lots of new things’ – the reality is at the moment we’ve all on trying to sort the kids out and finding bread and toilet rolls!  However as the weeks progress and we settle into new daily rhythms and holy habits, the Lord will use us in different ways.  The one thread that will run through the weeks to come is that of PRAYER.

  • Message

This Bible message gives four practical initiatives to take which will build up your daily rhythms and holy habits over these next weeks.  The Scriptures for this week are 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, along with Romans 15:13.  We pray God will bless you through this resource.

    1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIVUK)

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

    Romans 15:13 (NIVUK)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

    Bible Message - worksheet

    • Bible base: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
    • What is God saying to you?
    • 1 Thessalonians was written by St Paul to this small church, and its main theme is that of ENCOURAGEMENT, so:
      1. How is God encouraging you at this time?
      2. How can you be an encouragement to someone else?
    • These three verses form a 'spiritual sandwich'!  The two slices of bread top and bottom are 'rejoice always' and 'give thanks in all circumstances', and right in the middle, the meat of the sandwich, is 'PRAY CONTINUOUSLY'.
      1. How could you change your daily rhythm to increase your personal prayer, family prayer etc?
      2. How could you link with others online in your community to pray?
      3. Prayer is 'spiritual breathing' - ask the Lord to make this a reality for you.
